Mission Mountain Cooperative Development Center

The Mission Mountain Cooperative Development Center provides technical assistance to developing and existing cooperatives in western Montana. The center is housed with the Mission Mountain Food Enterprise Center, a statewide resource for food product development in Montana. Both centers are programs of Lake County Community Development Corporation, a regional economic and community development organization.

Cooperatives offer a unique advantage to business developers. A cooperative is an organization that is owned and democratically controlled by the people who use its products, supplies, or services. Working together as a group, members find they can accomplish more collectively than they could individually.

Cooperatives are formed to meet the specific objectives of members and are structured to adapt to the members changing needs. The benefits of belonging to cooperatives include:

  • Access to quality supplies and services at reasonable costs
  • Increased visibility and leverage in the marketplace
  • Share in earnings based on use of co-op
  • Effective political action
  • Enhance local economy through services and job creation

The Mission Mountain Cooperative Development Center is committed to developing and promoting the cooperative way of business. A partner of the Montana Cooperative Development Coalition, the Montana Cooperative Development Center, and the national network Cooperation Works, MMCDC understands the importance of building capacity through cooperative efforts. MMCDC is dedicated to promoting cooperatives in western Montana as a viable alternative for rural development issues with an emphasis on "value added" enterprises. Through a team of professionals the center provides resources to foster the development of new cooperatives and helps to improve existing cooperatives.
